Enshrinement Festival, Canton, Ohio

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Timken Grand Parade will be held this Saturday, Aug. 7, beginning at 8 a.m. The first grand parade was held in 1963, and it has become one of the largest of the 18 events celebrating the induction of the newest Class of Enshrinees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

This year’s celebration will include many returning Hall of Famers, who will ride in the parade, along with the 2010 Class of Enshrinees including Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little, John Randle, Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith. Parade viewers will be treated to the sights of 12 giant helium balloons, 21 marching and military bands, 11 floats and 23 specialty units, as well as antique vehicles, animal units and much more.

We have several guests staying at our Ohio bed and breakfast, Whispering Pines, attending this year's events.  The Inn is located about 30 minutes from all the activities.  The weather is cooperating so this weekend should be a lot of fun.

Pro Football Hall of Fame - Canton, Ohio

A few years ago I was invited to the Fashion Show Luncheon, one of the special activities of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement week.  I can say it was fantastic - the fashions, the energy, the music and the models.  I really enjoyed my afternoon.  Anyone that can attend will be delighted.  The following is information from Stark County.

Guests at this year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Fashion Show Luncheon on Friday, Aug. 6, will enjoy a true fashion celebration.

A palate of ivory, teal and chocolate brown will greet guests as they arrive to enjoy a delectable lunch prior to the start of the fabulous show. The show, themed “Fashion Celebration,” will include state-of-the-art sound, lighting and video to showcase male and female professional models wearing the season’s hottest fashions. Fashions will run the gamut from casual to dressy and everything in between, from plaids to sequins, leggings to jumpsuits, mini skirts to evening gowns and clutches to giant handbags.

Providing added energy throughout the show will be a variety of musical performers. Michael Stanley will surely rock the house, Disco Inferno is ready to boogie down to the funky sound, and the American Commodore Tuxedo Dancers will move with a groove!

Emceeing the festivities will be Matt Fox, former host of HGTV’s Room by Room, which first aired in Dec. 1994. Room by Room was the first show to air on HGTV and the longest-running decorating program in television history. A master carpenter and designer, Fox is also a professional speaker and presenter and is a weekly contributor on Canton’s own News-Talk 1480 WHBC. In early 2011, he and television partner Shari Hiller will launch a new PBS series, Around the House with Matt and Shari.

I'll look forward to seeing you soon,

The Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography is featuring Art Wolfe’s work in its current exhibition, “Art Wolfe: Travels to the Edge,” on display from July 2 through October 1.

Massillon Ohio Historic Tour and Lodging at Ohio Bed and Breakfast

Five Oaks, a stone residence now owned by the Massillon Heritage Foundation, was built in 1894 by J. Walter and Flora McClymonds. McClymonds, a distinguished Civil War veteran, was an industrialist, financier, and philanthropist. Designed by the prominent Cleveland architect, Charles F. Schweinfurth, the mansion has, since 1924, been the home of Massillon Woman’s Club. In 1972 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

At 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 10th, local historian Margy Vogt will lead a walking tour of the historic Fourth Street neighborhood, which is also listed on the National Register. Participants will stroll along the brick street to savor the architectural details of the other 19th-century mansions and learn the stories of former residents: a conductor on the Underground Railroad, the grandfather of author Jack London, Lillian Gish, and an internationally famous classical singer.

The ninety-minute walk encompasses six blocks of Massillon’s finest old neighborhood, where residences represent more than a century of architectural excellence. The first homes were built in the early 1830s; the last was constructed in 1938.

The $10 fee includes the continental breakfast and both tours. No reservations are necessary. In case of rain, the Five Oaks tour will proceed; the Fourth Street walking tour will carry on if possible.  However, combine this tour with an overnight stay at Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast and we will pay your fee.

I'll look forward to seeing you soon,

4th of July Celebration at Ohio Bed and Breakfast

It happened fast, but the July 4th celebration is just around the corner.  At Whispering Pines Bed and Breakfast we celebrate the day with a traditional fireworks display put on by the community.  Our Ohio Bed and Breakfast really has the best seat on the lake as the fireworks are displayed directly across the lake from the Inn.  Guests can choose to sit outside around the fire pit roasting s'mores and enjoying the colorful display or pick another spot on the grounds or even inside in our new sun room.

Why not join us on Sunday, July 4th?

I'll look forward to seeing you soon,
