The National First Ladies' Library is housed in two buildings. One is the Ida Saxton McKinley Historic Home and the other building, just a block north, is the Education & Research Center where the museum is housed. The house itself is a wonderful example of the victorian era. Many years ago, it was destined to be torn down, but a group of dedicated people from the Canton, Ohio area saved it. It's the perfect site for the Nations First Ladies to reside.
The name of the current exhibit, America's Goodwill Ambassadors: First Ladies Travel the World - is showing now through November 5, 2010.
This exhibit concentrates on the important, but non-political role First Ladies play in international diplomatic relationships for the United States. This exhibit features First Ladies Elizabeth Monroe, Harriet Lane, Helen Taft, Lou Hoover, Jackie Kennedy, Pat Nixon, Rosalynn Carter, and Hillary Clinton. On display will be gifts given to First Ladies from various countries around the world on loan from Presidential Libraries and Museums.
Stay Monday - Thursday and receive two free admission tickets for this exhibit. We'll also help you plan the rest of your afternoon in downtown Canton.
Hope to see you soon,
Linda
